The City of Mississauga is hosting a series of public meetings this week on the future of the Dundas Street corridor, which is Dundas Street stretching from the very eastern limits of Mississauga bordering Etobicoke, all the way to the western limits next to Oakville. Dundas is one of the oldest existing streets in Mississauga’s history, with Hurontario and Dundas (known more commonly as Highway 5 and 10 back in the day) one of the longest existing intersections in the history of Canada. As this city anticipates an increased level of growth due to population demands and new infrastructure such as the LRT being put along Hurontario, the need to rethink how we use our existing main corridors has become a crucial project to undertake.

Dundas has been described as, to paraphrase, a “super street”. Dundas is a key artery of Mississauga’s transportation network, and is home to a variety of small and medium sized businesses, parks, schools, churches and neighbourhoods. The City has decided to have these public meetings in order to solicit feedback from the public on what the future of this important corridor is in the next 20 to 40 years, and they have decided to partner with a consulting firm to provide expert advise on matters like land use, transit, and public policy development.

There will be five sessions starting tomorrow, April 19, and stretching all the way to next Thursday, being held in various locations along the corridor so citizens from various locations along Dundas can attend the one closest and most convenient for them. Here are the dates, location and times:
